The mysterious Time Machine

First-time tourists from the future could materialise on Earth within a few weeks.

Physicists in the world is waiting excitedly from £ 4.65 billion Large Hadron Collider, LHC - the most powerful atom-smasher ever built - is to shed new light on the particles and forces at work in the cosmos and reproduce conditions that close to date the Big Bang of creation.

Prof. Dr. Irina Aref'eva and Igor Volovich, physicists in mathematics Steklov Mathematical Institute in Moscow believe that the vast experiment at CERN, the European particle physics center near Geneva in Switzerland, it may be the world's first machine, New Scientist reports.

The debut in early summer could provide a landmark because of a trip to the past is only possible - if there is a possibility at all - as far back as the first point of creation engine.

Which means that 2008 could become "Year Zero" for a while traveling, they argue.

Time travel was born when Albert Einstein's colleague, Kurt Gödel, used Einstein's theory of relativity to show that the journey to the past is possible.

Since he unveiled this idea in 1949, eminent physicists have is time travel because undermine the idea of cause and effect to create paradoxes: the time traveler can return to kill his grandfather so that it never was born in the first place.

But, sixty years later, still no fundamental reason why the tourists can not place a historian of business.

But Russia said that if the energy of the LHC are concentrated into subatomic particle - a trillionth the size of the mosquito - they can do strange things to the fabric of the universe, which is a blend of space and time that scientists called spacetime.

While the earth gravity produces gentle distortions in spacetime the LHC energy can distort time so much that loops back on itself. Loops is known to physicists as "closed timelike curves" and they should, in theory at least, to allow us to return some time ago.

Chimes with the scheme put one in 1988, when Prof Kip Thorne and colleagues at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, showed that wormholes, or tunnels through spacetime, will make travel time, a scheme popularised by Carl Sagan in the novel - made to in a film - Contact.

Aref'eva and Prof. Dr. Volovich believe that the LHC could create wormholes and so allow a form of time travel. "We recognize that closed timelike curves and wormholes could also be a result of collisions of particles," said Prof. Aref'eva.

There are still many obstacles for the stars such as Dr Who, however. Most of them are not the fact that this is a small wormholes, so only subatomic particles are small enough to travel through them.

They tell the Daily Telegraph that whether subatomic time travel in the LHC will open the door to human scale of time tourists "in depth and interesting questions" but stressed that "this problem, and many other people also require further investigation."

May be the best we can hope for is that the LHC in May shows the signature of the wormholes' existence, Dr Volovich said. If some of the energy from collisions in the LHC goes missing, can be made because of collisions of particles that have to travel through a wormhole and time.

A sticking point for the wormhole until now is find the concept of exotic types of materials that are able to keep the stomach from the wormhole open for time travel.

Dark energy - the mysterious antigravity force that parent to absorb the universe - could, they say, will only what is needed to maintain the entrance to a wormhole open, at least according to one family of ideas about nature, in which called phantom energy.

If the mixture of colliding particles and energy ghosts do not make wormhole in Geneva this year, advanced civilization can find in history books, right now, and take advantage of the technology they pay for our visit.

"Evidence observation that still allows for phantom energy," said Robert Caldwell, a physicist at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. "Because Volovich and to Aref'eva's speculation that the LHC will generate revenue from guest machine time - you!"

A leading scientist who believes that time travel can be made, Prof David Deutsch of Oxford University, comments: "This is speculative in the extreme, but not shake. For various reasons that I do not think they proposed the mechanism will work (that is, providing point to a message from the future) even if their speculation is correct. "

Dr. Brian Cox of the University of Manchester adds: "The energy from cosmic rays billion has been hitting the earth's atmosphere for five billion years far exceed that we will make in the LHC, so by this logic time travelers should be here already. If these wormholes appear my personal will eat my hat given to the first anniversary of my before I accept. "
